Jerriais – The language of the Channel Islands Primary school children in Jersey Island now have an opportunity to study Jerriais. Jerriais is the language that is spoken in Jersey. Jerriais classes were incorporated into the school curriculum. This means that every student will be expected to take at least 6 lessons in Jerriais. Most of the students, who are 8 to 9 years old are also entitled to receive a CD and booklet on Jerriais. Students will also be taught on different aspects of the language. Jèrriais (or Jersey French) is the form of the Norman language spoken in Jersey, in the Channel Islands, off the coast of France. There are very few people who speak Jerriais as a mother tongue, but efforts are being made to keep the language alive.
