Cantonese, or Standard Cantonese, is a variant of Cantonese (Yue) Chinese. It is commonly spoken in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macau, and by many overseas Chinese. There are about 71 million speakers. Please note that our Cantonese dictionary is written in roman characters. In order to reproduce the different tones, the author used transcription conventions that are explained in this pronunciation guide (MS Word format, 6 kb).
Download our free dictionary (for Windows) and browse both the Cantonese-English and the English-Cantonese lists. Look up a word, add or modify an entry, and learn words at your own rhythm from a personal learning list. Click here to learn more about the features or scroll down to download the program.
