The Marquesan picture language The only word that exists for any domestic animal in the Marquesan language is the word for pig. Marquesan is a collection of East-Central Polynesian dialects, spoken in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. They are usually classified into two groups, North Marquesan and South Marquesan, roughly along geographic lines. The total of speakers is around 5,000 people.
