Persian – One of the most beautiful languages in the world

A father and his son were watching a funeral procession. The son asked the father if he knew where the coffin was being taken to. The father replied that it was being taken to a place where there were no lights, food and water; to which the son replied, “They must be headed to our house then.” Persians have a good sense of humor and jokes are freely shared among family and friends. Poetry is also used on a day to day basis, as it plays an important role in the lives of Persians, who like to quote famous verses and quotes from great Persian poets. Poetry can be applied in various aspects of their lives to resolve various situations. In his 20th March 2009 videotaped message to the people of Iran, president Obama quoted the medieval Persian poet, Sa’di (1184 – 1283), as he wished the Persians a happy new year.

Persian is a language that is mainly spoken in Uzbekistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Speakers can also be found Iraq, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Yemen, Israel, Azerbaijan, India, USA, Turkey and Turkmenistan. Until 1935, Iran was known as Persia. Persian is an Iranian language, which falls under the Indo-Iranian branch of Indo-European languages. The Persian language is sometimes referred to as Farsi. Persian has 3 dialects: Farsi, which is spoken in Iran, Tojiki, which is spoken in Central Tajik and Dari, which is spoken in Afghanistan. Afghan Persian and the Modern Iranian Persian are written using the Arabic alphabet. Tajik Persian is written using the Cyrillic alphabet. The Pahlavi and Avestan scripts were previously used to write Middle Persian. Persian is also used as a liturgical language of Islam.

There are approximately 110 million people who speak the Persian language worldwide. Persian is not a difficult language to learn, mainly because there are no articles and nouns do not have a gender. Persian is a soft, poetic language and it has been described as one of the most beautiful language’s in the world. It is a bit challenging for English speakers to pronounce some Persian words.
