Tatar – The official language of Tatarstan The Office for Muslims’ Religious Affairs announced the publication of a 3 volume Quran in the Tatar language. This announcement was made in May 2013. This was a project that was began in 2012, otherwise known as the Year of the Holy Quran in Tatarstan. The Quran was published by he Center for Quran Researches and Studies in Kazan. Tatar is the official language of the Republic of Tatarstan (Russian Federation). It is also spoken in Central Asia, Ukraine, Poland, China, Finland and Turkey. Tatar is a Turkic language, and it has about 8 million speakers.
