Slovak is mainly spoken in Slovakia. It is also used as an official language in Austria, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Romania and Serbia. Speakers can also be found in the United States, the UK, Austria, Ukraine, Canada and Ireland. It is approximated that more than one third of Slovaks do not live in Slovakia. Slovak is an Indo-European language that belongs to the West Slavic languages (together with Czech and Polish). Czech and Slovak are mutually intelligible. Slovak has about 6 million speakers, mostly in Slovakia.
