First time i used your dictionary, i wasn't able to find the words i was searching and offered to assist in making it better. But after learning more about the italian language, conjugation and tenses, i find that you did a great job of creating this dictionary and would really offer my sincere thanks for putting something like this free over the internet. As i continue to get better with this language, i will try to note words that might be added. Thanks again.

My father, a second cousin, and my Grandmother eventually landed in South Dakota USA in 1951. Until I was about 6 years old my sister and I spoke Niederreußisch-- a Low German dialect. We were then encouraged (and later forced) by all around us to speak in English and English only. Given where we lived, this was, of course, necessary. But we still hated it.
I still am able to speak, read, and write in Low Prussian German-- but by age 25 ad learned American English, Standard High German (Hochdeutsch), Russian; around 30 I had learned to be nominally conversational in Nederlands (Dutch).
This Website is Öösgezeijknet-- Outstanding! I came across it when it was cited as a reference used for a post on a European Heritage site I am a member of. I rolled up on it about 6 hours ago and am just now pulling myself awy. Keep it up!

Finnish is a strange language and I believe that it is in some was related to Turkish. I seem to hear likenesses, but neithe´r speak nor understand either.

Thank you!

I just wanted to tell everyone involved with this site that I very much appreciate the work you've done, I value your service, and I've downloaded the free dictionary software on both my home and work computers: it's been helpful both to assist me with languages I'm learning, and with those I know nothing about. For instance, I've used it on the job when I was a cataloger at a library to help with books in other languages; in my area of the United States we have a number of Hispanic and Russian immigrants, and while Spanish I know enough of to get by, Russian and Cyrillic I know nothing of. I use it at home, if nothing else, to play with and add to my vocabulary. Many thanks, and please keep up the good work.

Being so accustomed to the Internet run-around I was surprised by this site. It's all it purports to be - you can download free easy-to-use dictionaries (from and to English) in 39 (as per now) languages, including Welsh and Esperanto, even Old English. This is in keeping with the philosophy of free knowledge for all. It's what the fathers (and mothers?) of the Internet envisioned. I thank you and salute you. May you grow and grow.
And about growing - I'm a little jealous of the size of some of the dictionaries. French, German and Dutch are very comprehensive. I'd like to see some of the lesser known languages become larger. Afrikaans for example, should have about as many words as Dutch, plus all the African, Malaysian, Portuguese and English that crept into the language over the centuries. Let's see people make more of a contribution to the site. Let's see an Afrikaner donate a fuller dictionary. The same goes for everyone else. I've heard it said that the Inuit have fifty words for 'snow'. Let's get them all. Let's also hope for more and more dictionaries, from Arabic to Khoi, from Hebrew to Zulu.
To the founders of the site, and to those who keep it running, yours is an exalted mission, yours is a holy calling - full strength to you. And thank you.

When I first came across your website some four years ago, I knew that I had hit upon something fantastic. I used your dictionaries to study similarities in the vocabularies of the Germanic languages and to aid in planning artificial ones. Such services as offered by your website are a rare find on the Internet, and I am always impressed by how you continue to improve them.

Now, however, I find myself unable to enjoy your once eminently useful resources. For about the last eight months, I have had a problem such that when I download and install the language program and a wordlist and try to use them, the program's window opens somewhere far above the upper border of the screen. I can tell by the bar at the bottom of the screen that the program is open, but it cannot be seen on the screen. And then, when I close the program, I can see the window collapsing in from somewhere above the screen.

I hope you can help me with this problem so that I might once again make use of your generously offered information.

Sorry, but I just had to post this. It really bugs me. Some people actually think we all wear wooden shoes and eat cheese! I hate cheese; and I don't have one pair of wooden shoes in my whole street!
